BREAST AUGMENTATION
Technically known as “Augmentation Mammoplasty” this surgery is designed to increase the size and projection of the Breasts, generally with breast implants. Surgery can be performed in cases of breast asymmetries (breasts of different sizes), when after pregnancies the breast decreases in size and becomes flaccid, or as a reconstruction after having undergone surgery for some type of Cancer. When the breasts are sagging, it will be necessary to perform an additional surgery called “Breast pexia” to lift them and reposition them in place.
- Duration of surgery
Implant placement lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours; If the Pexia is required additionally, it could take up to 3.5 hrs.
- Recovery
Breast implant placement may require 7-10 days of partial rest. The recovery is gradual, the movement of the arms will be limited at the beginning and you will be able to mobilize them more and more gradually; you will be able to drive 15 days after surgery; and doing arm exercises 8 weeks after surgery.
- Risks and possible Complications
All surgery has its risks and possible complications, it could present one or more of the following or none:
Bleeding during or after surgery; Accumulation of inflammatory fluid (seroma) in the postoperative period or time after surgery; Infection of wounds, surgical area or punctures; Wound opening, mainly if Pexia is performed, in the area of greatest pressure, which is in the groove, and in cases of placing very large implants; difficulty or poor healing with increased risk in Smokers and / or Diabetics; Asymmetries, Irregularities; Allergies to medications, anesthesia etc. Capsular Contractures can occur in the implant, this is that the capsule that forms around the implant can harden, cause discomfort and can become deformed in some cases. Implants can break.
- Duration of the result
The duration of the result of both Augmentation Mammoplasty and Pexia depend on several elements:
– From the plane where the implant is placed, they fall faster under the mammary gland than under the pectoral muscle;
– The size of the breast implant placed since the more weight will gradually fall sooner due to gravity, just like any other large breasts do; If there is weight gain again, the breasts will be heavier so they will tend to fall gradually in less time.
Additional Information
It will be necessary to leave some small tubes to drain residual liquid for a few days. The patient must wear compression garments for 6 to 8 months and a rehabilitation program with ultrasound, radio frequency, etc. for best results and decrease postoperative pain and inflammation. If there are no complications, an overnight stay is required, which is included in the initial cost; in case of any complication, additional medications may be required, an extra night, or even re-entry to the operating room; these additional expenses are not included in the initial cost.
